To contrast the formal-leaning architecture crating a dynamic, bold design “the selected materials and finishes utilized in this concept result in an interesting tension between the formal and the contemporary as they are timeless in material complimented by contemporary lines,” notes Grace Parry and Jenny Snider, pointing to selections such as the new herringbone oak floor and bespoke upholstered furniture silhouettes with plush bench seats in deep blues and aquas contrasted with modern coffee tables. Shapes remain a bit more streamlined to balance the tension between the traditional and contemporary. Layered together, colors weave through the cool toned pastel pillowscape, hand knotted rugs and dramatic art pieces. The concept features textured shearling, leather, velvet and chenille that infuse a tactile dimension to the design. And, as color is nothing without light, the designer duo also favored statement fixtures comprising brass, sculpted metal and crystal. The home transformation is bright and buoyant, feels as kinetic as the life bustling through its rooms. Amidst holidays with their children, rowdy games with friends, and champagne dinner parties in the glamorous dining room outfitted with a playful new chandelier and inviting seating, the client's next chapter shows no signs of slowing down. “It is a sophisticated house, but it lives and feels vivacious,” says Grace Parry. The clients now have an inspirational home to create new memories in.
In order to create visual balance and rhythm given the proximity to the dramatic living room - adding the black leather in the seating paired with brass details and a knock out of an island pendant achieved that balance. The overall impression of the kitchen is now elevated and it exudes confidence and carries its own in the presence of the larger than life living room.
White kitchens are here to stay - the color is airy, timeless and leaves a clean impression. Competing for first place we find black on a close second of favorite colors in a kitchen. Although black can be used as the cabinet color, floor color, ceiling color, countertops or all of the above, Dwell Interiors chose to elevate this already finished kitchen adjacent to the living room utilizing bold black accents and textures in furnishings and finishes.
The most important thing?
Perfect lighting
at all times.
