The farmhouse-style residence in Palo Cedro, CA
that Jenny Snider designed for Dwell Interiors is a
transitional display of many things—layers of rich texture, connection to the landscape and optimal function for a large family.
“My clients chose a property with incredible potential, fantastic location and proximity to all the adventure Northern California has to offer- not to mention the rural beauty,” the designer says. “That was the starting point. It is where a farmhouse belongs. I then considered the fact that they’re a large family living in the 21st century who against the current moved from San Antonio Texas to Northern California and that they are a family with down to earth yet sophisticated taste. The design for this home is a combination of all of those things. It evolved very naturally into exactly what it is supposed to be.”
The clients’ attraction to the area was its proximity to family. “ We knew we wanted a farmhouse home, it is inviting and timeless," the wife says. The couple’s real estate agent and close friend helped them find an idyllic home. A family member recommended Jenny with Dwell Interiors. “We sat down with Jenny via zoom, while we were still in Texas and generally described what we wanted,” says the wife. “She listened to our ideas and then took them to a whole other level.”
Inspired by the natural surroundings and her clients’ lifestyle and aesthetics, Snider imagined a design that comprises understated forms and finishes with white, silver and brown paired with reclaimed wood accents and bright white timeless shaker style cabinets . “The clients and I really gravitated toward a conservative palette with rich textures,” the designer says. “It provides connection between the soulful elements used in the accents, which have a lot of grays and browns, and the crispness of the white-painted wood.”
Another major improvement to the home was the addition of sliding doors to the beautiful backyard. Allowing for such ease of flow between the spaces tying the interior to the exterior and capitalizing on the California inside outside lifestyle . “Creating this level of functionality and getting the home to its fullest potential was definitely an extensive and time consuming undertaking,” says Jenny Snider, who managed the project and kept the vision on track in close collaboration with the family.
This home remodel also included the entry, living room , the hearth room and a small bathroom makeover adjacent to the family's homework and computer area. Keeping the farmhouse design flowing throughout the home, the design remains true to the softer earthier tones, German schmear to soften the brick of the fireplaces and moments of soft whites. The staircase was completely re-imagined to house a pantry and additional drawers for storage. The powder room got a facelift with a white vanity sporting white quartz countertops and surface mounted sink. The floor flowing throughout the entire first floor is a life proof luxury vinyl plank the family selected complimenting the tones and adding that rustic farmhouse touch.
