Many factors and moving parts go into any design project. Below is a simplified explanation of typical phases.
“Phases of Design” is the standard process we use. It allows clear definition to each step that systematically takes us from beginning to end.
The process begins after we have signed the design proposal and the deposit is paid.
One of many reasons we have selected to a systematic step by step process is that it prevents items from falling through the cracks with all the moving parts of any remodel or new build. Another reason is that is ensures efficiency and keep each project running as smoothly as possible.
1. Pre-Design Phase aka. "Discovery Session"
We explore our possibilities and decide on scope of project including budget discussion. We go through our questionnaire, ask in depth questions to understand your goals, your space and your desired outcomes.
2. Concept Design Phase
We create the vision and direction for your space. Includes general layout and flow drawings as well as inspirational visual aids to communicate and illustrate the vision. What we found during the discovery session will inspire the concept and be applied to the suggestions.
Dwell Interiors generates documents illustrating proposed space planning, layout, functionality and how the spaces and zones work in relationship to one another. Prior to presentation Dwell Interiors processes and explores all possible scenarios and options and the best one is presented.
3. Design Development Phase
After the concept presentation Dwell Interiors processes feedback and implements changes, specifies the particular selection of each space, finish and furnishings. We refine solutions, flow and analyze in great depth each zone, vignette and how they relate to each other. To give an example, we have decided exact location of the kitchen island and defined the coffee/beverage station to include a wine fridge, an ice maker and water purification system. Here we now select the exact make and model and their required specifications are implemented in the design.
4. Scope of Work Documentation
Here we create the step by step instructions for each trade and what is needed to accomplish the design. We liken this to writing the recipe now that we have decided what we want to cook. By this time designer and client are clear on direction and selections. We identify any items that still need specification and trade specific information. This is a time consuming phase that preempts many costly and frustrating mistakes during construction.
5. Construction Phase - if applicable
We work with your (or our) General Contractor to ensure all designs are implemented and resolve any questions that may arise. It is time to see the design come to life through the various construction phases from demo to framing and onto finishes. We will have our selected GC on site with proper permitting. Dwell Interiors orders materials, finishes, light fixtures and furnishings coordinating according to the preferred delivery protocol.
6. Furnishing Phase
We custom design, select and source many items for your space. Dwell Interiors collaboratively partner with you creating the entire room design, including furnishing concept. This includes all pieces from rug and rug pad to furnishings, decor, window coverings and all in between. We go through each space together to ensure everything is according to our scope and concepts (including any change orders along the way).
We implement the concept layout and on install we ensure each piece functions as it should within the design.
Install day is the single most exciting day. Please plan for a day away from the home. During this time we photograph and document the project for portfolio and marketing. As you arrive home for the reveal - it is the most exhilarating experience to step into your newly transformed space the first time to take it all in. We are looking forward to being on the journey with you.
